The Lone Bard

The Drowned King: A Souslike novella based on Dark Covenant Invader

Ever since I’ve played through Dark Covenant Invader, I couldn’t shake the urge to extend Leoric’s story beyond the game. That itch grew into a full novella: The Drowned King.

A dreg’s ambition. A god’s undoing.

In the drowned ruins of a dying world, death is not an ending.

Reborn as an Abyss Wraith in service to the Drowned King, Leoric is bound to hunt across worlds and harvest the eyes of the fallen. They feed the sovereign of the Deep who grows stronger with every vision consumed.

But as Leoric ascends through the Covenant, devouring power and witnessing countless lives through the eyes he claims, his power grows and an ambition awakens.

Leoric must decide: remain a servant of the Deep or claim the Abyss for himself.

A dark fantasy inspired by From Software games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, The Drowned King is a novella of ruin, ambition, and the strength found beyond perfection.

This is a ~7700 word novella, roughly around 10% the length of a published novel, so let’s say 35 pages in book terms.

I had a lot of fun playing through the game, and writing this story was a pleasure. If you wanna see how it began, check it here:

And be sure to check out Dark Covenant Invader and all of Kerova’s games, they’re awesome.

The novella is free on Itch. I’ve put an EPUB, PDF, and KFX file, so choose your preferred format (KFX files are for Kindle devices).
