Let’s Play The Outcast! Part 2: Stranded

Let’s play the first scene! After an assassination attempt, Savoro Kingswood boarded a skiff from his ambushers and fled. The Abyss Watcher elders killed the would-be assassins and accused Savoro of murder and betrayal, making him a wanted man.
Now he’s on the run. His first step toward clearing his name and exposing the Abyss Watchers for their dark pacts with ancient gods is to secure a place for the resistance.
Scene 1
I’ll begin by following the game’s advice and frame the scene around Where, Who, Want, Obstacle, and How.
Oracle rolls work like this:

Savoro is on board a skiff, sailing over the void. He wants to secure a location for the resistance and lose his pursuers (if any).
Are there Watchers following?
5 + 5 = Surprise!
Sparks: Movement, Passage
There are pursuers on his tail, and they actually hook metal cables on his skiff to board it!
I’ll use the Intensity oracle to determine the level of activity in the void. Basically, you frame a question and roll a d6, where the higher the value, the "more" something is.
How active is the void?
d6: 4 = More intense than usual, let’s say
Let’s make the first Warm-Up Roll. Remember, these don’t have mechanical consequence, they serve to establish and flavor the scene.
The success of the roll depends on the dice.
- Light > Dark: Things go in our favor.
- Light = Dark: A surprising element is added to the scene.
- Light < Dark: Things go against us.
As the Watchers board Savoro’s skiff, he descends closer to the black clouds of the abyss, where the beasts come from.
Does any beast attack?
No!
Welp, the Watchers are crossing the ships! Savoro uses his Watcher Gear to make a flaming arrow and shoots the enemy skiff’s gas tank.
Roll: Light 5, Dark 3 = Favorable
As the enemies are crossing, their skiff explodes, hurtling them burning and screaming to the abyss below. They’re swallowed by the black clouds.
Now it’s time for the scene’s climax.
Scene Resolution Roll: Light 6, Dark 1
That result is a Progress Taint + Remove a Snag. Terrible right now. I don’t even have Snags to remove.
I’ll swap the values to get Light 1, Dark 6, which gives me Progress Advancement + Snag.
Let me roll on the Snag Generator to make it random:
Cost: spend time, resources, relationships; require help; impose demands.
Ok, so when the skiff exploded and the burning remains plummeted into the abyss, it dragged Savoro’s ship downward, tearing out its primary engine and snapping its rudder before he could remove the hooked cables.
He managed to steer the skiff onto the crumbling terrain of a sky ruin that should be perfect as a place for the resistance.
Now, however, his skiff is wrecked. He’s stranded, and will need to find parts and resources or seek help to fix his ship.
Progress: 🗹 ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐
New Snag: Stranded. Must find parts and resources or seek help to fix his skiff.
I’ll call it here to keep it short. See you next time!
