Let’s Play The Outcast! Part 4: Gods and Mortals

The quest for redemption continues!
This one will be a bit different. I’ve played through 4 more scenes of the campaign. I’ll summarize each one with what happened, how I rolled, and my choices.
The story unfolds until the Progress Track is fully marked, ready for the Final Scene.
Scene 3
Mission: Escape, Resource
Betrayal! Savoro is sold out by deserters to the Abyss Watchers.
As their ships dock on the island, Savoro realizes that they carry important resources to Katrin’s forge, among them gas and mechanical parts.
He must avoid detection and secure the skiffs for the resistance. Savoro can’t just hide or escape, he must deal with the invaders head-on.
Scene Resolution: Light 4, Dark 1
That was not good at all. It gives me a Taint on progress and a Snag. Inverting, just a Snag.
I decided to reroll spending the Friend of the Forge Edge.
Reroll: Light 5, Dark 5
Perfect! It gave me a Success on progress + removes a Snag. We can’t remove the starting Snags, so the only one available was Stranded.
Progress: 🗹 🗹 ☐ ☐ ☐
Snag removed: Stranded
I interpreted this as fighting and running on the island against the Watchers, then getting cornered with nowhere to go.
After a desperate fight across the island, Savoro is saved when Katrin’s henchmen storm the landing pad. Though several rebels fall in the brutal brawl, we ultimately overpower the Watchers and claim their fleet.
Securing these vital supplies earns Katrin’s deep respect and solidifies her commitment to the cause.
Scene 4
Mission: Discover, Technology
Katrin needs something powerful and tough to find to finish a revolutionary new engine she’s been developing.
It’s silent and faster than anything currently available. It can also be used to arm the resistance.
To complete it, she needs what she calls a voidcore. It can only be harvested from a dangerous type of sky-beast, the Atmas leviathan.
Scene Resolution: Light 6, Dark 2
That’s a Success + a Snag.Progress: 🗹 🗹 🗹 ☐ ☐
Snag table: Condition (surprise, frighten, threaten, undermine, intimidate, discourage, weaken, impress)
New Snag: Increased Sky-Beasts Activity
Sailing just above the abyss, Savoro and crewmates lure and slay an Atmas leviathan to extract its core.
The dangerous hunt succeeds, but stirring up the black clouds leaves the sky-beasts restless and aggressive.
Scene 5
Mission: Save, Information
To plan an all-out assault, the resistance needs the Abyss Watchers’ internal logs and records. Savoro uses the restless sky-beasts and directs the resistance to stage a distraction.
Warmp-Up Roll: Light 1, Dark 2
The distraction goes poorly and it takes a heavy toll. The resistance loses too many lives. The Watchers could foresee their moves, using their own foresight.
In any case, the chaos held just long enough. Savoro infiltrated the capital and then the headquarters using a skiff powered by Katrin’s voidcore engine.
But was the distraction a failure, or part of Savoro’s plan? To slip into their base, he had to intentionally make chaotic, erratic choices in order to confuse the enemies’ predictions.
Scene Resolution: Light 6, Dark 3
I swapped the results to get a perfect Success + Edge! Savoro escapes into the fog with their secret ledgers, gaining an important advantage over the Abyss Watchers.
Progress: 🗹 🗹 🗹 🗹 ☐
New Edge: Inside Information
Scene 6
Mission: Destroy, Phenomenon
Savoro will sever the elders’ connection to the ancient ones. Or at least try.
Using the stolen logs, he crashes a grand council of clan elders to expose the Watchers’ horrific blood pacts and isolate them politically.
He speaks of the sacrifices, the deep gods whose hunger will never abate, and the impending doom.
Scene Resolution: Light 3, Dark 1 = Taint progress + Edge
The clan elders don’t care for rebellion or upsetting the status quo. The Abyss Watchers stand close to the void and thus must make difficult choices to keep everyone else safe.
Their duty is grim, but necessary. It’s always worked and the Watchers are a respected clan. There is no reason to change.
Do they try to arrest Savoro? No.
The Watchers pretend to pity Savoro like he’s deranged. They’re impassive before his claims and show compassion instead of anger. He’s simply dismissed.
Progress: 🗹 🗹 🗹 🗹 ☒
New Edge: Clan Allies
Not all elders are so blind. The clans are troubled by missing hunters, and they can read the signs of doom of recent years. The rising sky-beast activity, the arrogance and scheming of the Watchers as their power and influence grow.
Some elders reach out to Savoro in secret, pledging to help the resistance when push comes to shove.
The Abyss Watchers have played gods long enough. It’s time they remembered they are mortals.
The reckoning has arrived.
The resistance is armed, the Watchers are exposed, and there’s no turning back. Finale coming next!
With 4 checked marks and 1 tainted one, the odds are great. However, we can’t reroll or invert the Mission Conclusion result. It all comes down to a single roll of Light die (+ Checked progress) vs Dark die (+ Tainted progress): 1d6 + 4 vs 1d6 + 1.
Will Savoro shatter the covenant and redeem his name, or will the ancient ones claim the sky islands?
